The French Agency for Biodiversity (AFB) became operational on 1 January 2017. The Agency was created under France’s new law on biodiversity, nature and landscapes, and comes under the Ministry of the Environment. It brings together four existing organisations, of which two are Eurosite members.
The Agency’s mission includes supporting the implementation of policies related to the protection, management and restoration of terrestrial, aquatic and marine biodiversity, and mobilising civil society to protect biodiversity. It also manages marine Natura 2000 sites.
